  • Alice Walter, Chair

    Alice Walter is an arts professional and arts activist who has been connected to community arts for thirty years. The central thread in her work has been creating art in Scarborough and facilitating opportunities for young artists.

    She co-founded and served as the Artistic Director of Cliffhanger Productions, which operated at the Guild Inn for nine years, earning a Dora Award for Outstanding Production and the first Mayor’s Award for the Arts. Cliffhanger Productions also programmed for families, offered creative workshops, and advocated for the Kingston Road strip.

    Other work has included roles such as General Manager of Mixed Company Theatre, and writing for The Marshall McLuhan Festival and the Canadian Opera Company. In 2005, Alice began teaching at R.H. King Academy, where she developed the first Specialist in Arts and Culture program in Toronto.

  • Rodney Yip, Vice Chair

    Rodney retired in 2015, from IBM Canada. In his retirement, he has re-invigorated his love of the arts. He has tried his hand at papermaking, screen printing, stained glass, metal art, ceramics and glass fusing. He often makes his own tools and enjoys figuring out ways to make things. He has been on volunteer Boards of Directors and leadership teams for over 30 years.

  • Amer Al-Shaar, Treasurer

    Amer is an accounting professional with over ten years of experience providing audit, review, and tax services to private companies and not-for-profit organizations, reporting under Accounting Standards for Not-for-profit Organizations in a variety of industries, which include charities, higher education, and foundations. Amer lives in Mississauga and services clients around the GTA. He enjoys spending time with family and friends and staying active in his free time..

  • Pierre Bussieres, Director

    With a background spanning venue and event operations, marketing, and finance, Pierre has built a well-rounded career in the music industry. As VP Finance at Six Shooter Records—an independent record label and artist management company—she oversees financial strategy and administration in support of the label’s award-winning roster. 

    A lifelong passion for the arts fuels both Pierre’s professional and volunteer work. She has contributed to the Canadian music industry as a FACTOR Juror, JUNO Judge, CIMA Committee Member, and RBC Emerging Musician Program Judge. She currently serves as Secretary of the Board for Rainbow Songs Foundation, an organization providing free, high-quality music programs to families using shelter and refugee services in the GTA. Outside of work, Pierre enjoys exploring Scarborough’s natural and community spaces with her family, including walks at the Bluffs, hikes in Rouge Park, and visits to Scarborough’s libraries (shoutout Baby Time at the Albert Campbell branch!)

  • Jason Liang, Director

    Jason is a lawyer and regulatory professional who is currently a senior policy advisor with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario. He previously served as a legal counsel with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation and the Liquor Control Board of Ontario, where he provided legal advice and support on Information Technology, Finance, Privacy and Policy-related matters. Growing up in Scarborough, Jason benefitted from public and community resources growing up and believes that inclusive and accessible arts services are invaluable to the well-being of the community.

  • Katrina Salvador, Director

    For nearly two decades, Katrina Salvador has brought creativity, purpose, and passion to her role in Exhibit Design at Toronto Zoo. She transforms public spaces into immersive experiences that inspire visitors to connect with nature and engage in conservation. A graduate of the Environmental Design program at OCAD University (Ontario College of Art and Design University), Katrina blends artistic vision with environmental awareness to create meaningful, educational spaces.

    Beyond design, Katrina is a member of the Zoo’s Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Committee, where she works to remove barriers and ensure diverse voices and perspectives are represented. As a Scarborough Arts Board member, Katrina brings her dedication to inclusive design, community engagement, and creative placemaking. She looks forward to fostering belonging, amplifying underrepresented voices, and sparking meaningful change through the arts.

  • Johnny Zhang, Director

    With a passion for supporting artists and the Scarborough community, Johnny (John) Zhang is a teacher, educator, writer, and arts administrator by profession with over 30 years experience teaching and working as an administrator at the post-secondary educational and non-profit environment in Canada and in China. Prior to that, he had 10 years experience teaching English and doing related research at Shandong University in China, where he got his Masters Degree in English and Literature at Peking University while teaching part-time during his 3-year graduate studies. He was writing and publishing his non-fiction works in China and later in Canada in the early 1990s. 

    A resident in Scarborough for over 2 decades, he has been actively involved in community services as a valued volunteer for various non-profit community organizations. In 2003, he received Canada Day Achievement Award from the Toronto National Day Celebration Committee, and in 2007 was awarded his outstanding volunteer services by Ontario’s Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration.
