Alicia Reid
My journey in photography began as a simple love for documenting life carrying my camera everywhere to capture moments I never wanted to forget. I started with music photography, drawn to the energy of live performances, and later found joy in photographing the city around me. When the pandemic quieted those spaces, my focus shifted home to Scarborough. I began documenting local landmarks, foods, and everyday lifestyle, the things that make this community feel like family.
Blue Skies (2021), taken at Scarborough Town Centre, reflects that early stage of discovery, a moment where the RT and the station’s blue arch aligned perfectly in frame, teaching me the value of patience and composition. My newer work from Deh Ya Fest (2024) carries that same sense of timing but through a different energy, vibrant, celebratory, and deeply connected to Caribbean culture.
Looking back brings a sense of nostalgia and pride. Each phase of my journey reveals growth from quiet observation to dynamic storytelling. My art, like myself, remains a work in process, always evolving, grounded in community, and inspired by the authentic and vibrant places that raised me.

About Alicia Reid
Alicia Reid is a Jamaican-Canadian photographer, journalist, and documentarian based in Toronto whose work captures authentic moments celebrating culture, community, and music. She explores identity, belonging, and the stories that shape communities. Her photography includes festivals, concerts, and events, with a focus on Toronto’s vibrant Caribbean and Black cultural scenes and life in Scarborough. A graduate of Toronto Metropolitan University, she continues to create work that reflects the people and places shaping Toronto’s east end.
