Krish Dineshkumar

I began my artistic journey in 2011, when I first opened Fruity Loops Studio and tried to recreate my favourite hip hop beats. Over time, experimenting with music, instruments, and archival audio led me beyond traditional music-making into sound art—often abstract, but rooted in musical ideas that evoke emotion and reflection on personal/political questions I’ve grappled with.

Looking back on my early work, I feel a mix of embarrassment and compassion. There was joy, clarity, and courage in those moments—not just in creating, but in sharing. Yet, I still wrestle with the urge to make "good" work, shaped by a mindset that values production over pure expression.

My creative process has long been tethered to external validation, and letting go of that is an ongoing challenge. I’m learning to trust that experimentation, even when it doesn’t sound great, brings me closer to expressing something that feels visceral.

I remain a work in progress—finding courage, re-learning what creation means, and embracing the irony that the emotional intensity that inspires me can also hold me back.
