The Foodie
Artist Residency

The Foodie Artist Residency is a program developed by Scarborough Arts and Eat More Scarborough, grounded in the idea of food as a site of cultural memory, migration, and exchange. Moving through Scarborough’s food tours, the residency creates space for connection between artists, vendors, and community — with new work to be shared with the Scarborough community this June shaped directly by those shared, lived experiences.

Our first Foodie Artist Resident is shn shn, an experimental pop producer, singer-songwriter, and interdisciplinary artist.

Foodie Artist Residency Project
shn shn

shn shn developed a three-part piece created from interviews and field recordings gathered over three Scarborough Eats food tours. Voices from participants, facilitators, and restaurant owners are woven together with music made from the sounds of the tours, alongside bass, flute, piano, and guitar.

The piece explores our relationships to food and the people, places, memories, and cultures it connects us to. Rather than telling one story, it brings together many voices to create a collective portrait of the experiences shared throughout the tours.
