Scarborough Arts Feature in CBC Arts: “Art in Scarborough is Art in Toronto”
Scarborough Arts was recently featured in CBC Arts, contributing to a broader public conversation about the need for dedicated, permanent art spaces in Scarborough.
The article highlights the depth of creative talent across the borough and the importance of investing in cultural infrastructure that supports artists and communities. In the feature, our Executive Director Beth Helmers joins artists Rajni Perera and Peter Marsh to speak to the challenges and opportunities facing Scarborough’s arts ecosystem.
“We need to preserve space for arts and culture because it's such an important part of what makes the city livable and vibrant and improves quality of life for people,” said Beth Helmers, Executive Director of Scarborough Arts. (CBC Arts)
Beth also highlights that, in spite of limited permanent venues, Scarborough artists continue to create and exhibit work in schools, parks, homes, and pop-up spaces — underscoring both the resilience of the community and the need for long-term solutions.
As artist Rajni Perera shares in the piece: “Art in Scarborough is art in Toronto. It's something that we need to house here and develop.” (CBC Arts)
